Ever look at your food labels and wonder why is there so many ingredients?
Food labels are something i started paying attention to when i began my fitness journey i scanned for calories paying little mind to the laundry list of ingredients.
About a year ago my algorithm took me down a rabbit hole of conspiracy and i began doing my own research.
Lets start with some food ingredients to avoid, where they are found and why to avoid them.
High fructose corn syrup, it can be hidden in many foods like candies jellies and yogurt. It can lead to heart disease
MSG, this is an additive found in soups chips and fast food, this ingredient blocks brain signals that tell you that you are full.
Sodium nitrate, this is a preservative found in tuna, sausage and deli meat, it has been linked to pancreas cancer.
Potassium bromate, it can be found in bread bagels, and crackers. this is a carcinogenic. It acts as a filler to increase volume in white flour products and is associated with thyroid problems.
Artificial colors, red 3,40, blue 1, yellow 5,6 carmine, and carmoisine. These are common in drinks candies and children's cereals. They are made of synthetic petroleum based chemicals. these can cause cancer, tumors, birth defects and attention issues.
Trans fats , found in crackers, biscuits, pies, margarine, vegetable shortening, fried foods, dairy and meats . It can causes clogged arteries and chronic illness like type 2 diabetes.
Artificial sweeteners, aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin. These are commonly found in diet drinks and sugar free foods. These can cause migraines, depression, IBS and weight gain.
Partially hydrogenated oils, PHO, these are found in cakes, pies, cookies, shortening, margarine, microwave popcorn, frozen pizza, refrigerated dough, and non dairy creamer. These can cause heart disease, type 2 diabetes, inflammation, and insulin resistance. PHO have been banned by the FDA it is still found in foods as trans fat.
Seed oils, vegetable, corn, canola, sunflower, rice, bran, safflower and soybean oil. These are found in to many foods to list here, they can cause inflammation, heart disease, cancer and a accumulation of toxins in the body
After reading all that, you may ask yourself why are all these ingredients in our food still? short answer is money. Many of these ingredients are cheap and help preserve a product or can work as a filler.
A more sinister reason for these ingredients is they make us want more. So we are getting sicker and the food companies are getting richer.
So were is our solution? Stop pursuing convenance and spending money on pretty packages food that is poisoning us.
Eat whole foods, lean meats, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes. look for organic and non GMO. Cook with avocado, coconut, or olive oil. cook your own food so you know what's going into it.
We are being propelled into illness by our desire for comfort and convenance. Close to half of the US is overweight and depends on pharmaceuticals to regulate our blood pressure, insulin or thyroid.
Wake up and take control of your health, your life depends on it .
